So I bought a MBA of ebay 2 days ago.. it shipped sealed in its original packaging... I'm assuming that a refurb MBA would be in a cardboard box like the macbooks... this was in the beautiful iphone like packaging.

I love apples presentation.

Anyway. I obviously installed iStat pro so i could keep tabs on temperature and battery health..

During its first session i somehow got the CPU up to 75 degrees and max fan without doing anything much.
I took a look at my battery life and charge cycles and its at 98% health and 4 Cycles...

I figured it might go to 100% once it gets a full charge/discharge which i gueess is calibrating it...

what i dont get is why there are 4 cycles on it already?
anybody else run in to this problem????

i guess i should mention that the warranty runs out in march which means it was probably originally purchased then.

thanks!
Steven

Are you sure it was the original packaging? You did say you bought it on eBay.

Also, sometimes batteries take a couple of charge cycles to reach their maximum capacity, so your 98% may increase.

The good side of the grass.
Not unusual. Mine came with six! Never saw 100% batt. health so don't freak. Currently at 97% w. 136 cycles.

75º isn't that bad. Download all the updates and see where she lands. Mine hovers at 47-60'sº & over 60's during videos, empty trash, time machine, handbrake, disk utilities and other graphic intensive tasks. As long as the fans kick on to about 6200 and come down, it's normal.

Have fun!:D

Yea.. I'm sure it was original packaging. It was sealed in the standard apple shrinkwrap. and 4 cycles did seem a little odd. especially since my normal macbook came with 0 cycles. eventually over a year it had somehow dipped to 76% health with only 80 cycles and they replaced it with one that now has 100% health remaining after 60 cycles!

If yours came with 6 cycles on it then I'm a bit more comfortable with it... still kinda confused as to why apple would let this MBAs ship with 98 or 96 battery life showing in a freakin laptop that doesnt have a user replaceable battery!

**I downloaded all the firmware updates right after I turned it on and i can say that its sitting around 44 degrees right now... which is better than my regular macbook thats at 56 :)

... now i just have to convince myself that this beautiful thing is worth keeping!

any thoughts? do you really feel the difference in processing power between 2.0 ghz and 1.6? and does the 4200 vs 5400 rpm drive really make a dif? i'd think not... but i'm sure you guys would know better than i!

thanks for your comments

um... you have one right in front of you. why do you care if we feel the difference between 4200 and 5400? do you? that's what's important.

Thanks for your helpful response... I obviously haven't formed an opinion yet over the first 6 hours of use.

So far it seems pretty snappy to me... but even windows computers seem snappy on day 1 :):p
