Brand New OEM iPads on eBay Ligit?

I found an auction for a Brand New iPad WITHOUT a box.

I asked why they are selling them without boxes and they said it was because it was OEM.

They are even willing to provide the serial numbers to prove that they are under warranty.

Does Apple sell iPads without boxes to resellers?

Should I buy it? The seller has near 100% reputation and feedback on eBay.

If they are demo units, i'd wonder why they were not sent back for refurbishment and then sold as refurb units. Resellers don't put saleable merchandise up for auction.

Also, OEM has a specific meaning. A demo unit is not an OEM unit, and there is no such thing as an "OEM iPad."

If you can't get a better explanation than that, from someone who should be able to explain the history of these machines (since he theoretically owns them), don't buy.

They can't be demos because according to him they are 100% Brand New with factory stickers still on them (of course this is IF he is telling the truth).

I also thought it was weird that he called them OEM units. I can't imagine any iPad not coming with a box (even demo units).

He's sold a lot of them and has all positive feedback. He may be selling these separately or he may be getting replacement units from Apple.

Simple, they are service replacements.

But if they were service replacements they would not come with the power supply and connector which are needed -are they just units being sold by dealers that got them as returns or are selling new units sub rosa so to speak under the mandated retail price? My vote would be they are customer returns not refurbs.

Yeah, I completely forgot that it didn't come with the power supply and cable.

I would still save about $50 bucks (if I bought the power supply separately) but I think I'd rather have the box. It would be better for resale value for sure.
