Well just as you could imagine im brand new to my macbook and apple as a whole. Have a quick question that im sure is very basic. I am trying to download windows media player version for the mac osx and for somereason everytime i try to download it, the white paper icon shows up on my desktop but when i click on it i get this message "there is no default application specified to open the document "windows media.sitx" " Can somebody help me out.

Yes, don't used Windows Media Player; go with Flip4Mac.
But to answer your other question, you need a program called "Stuffit Expander" to open the sitx file. Google it and you should find it easily. It is rarely used anymore, but some older programs might use it.

Flip4mac is pretty good though, so I do recommend it over WMP.

Yes, yes... you need both Stuffit Expander and Flip 4 Mac. Don't download Windows Media Player, you will be right back on this forum asking us why it can't be uninstalled or deleted from the trash can, it is that crappy

Haha, I agree. I was almost quite happy when Microsoft announced that they were no longer updating WMP for OS X...because we don't even need it.
Great, thanks for the help guys. Also thanks for the stuffit expander tip as well. Come to think of it, being new to the mac world and all, is there any other things I should download on my macbook? Also does anybody have any feedback about purchasing ms office 2004?
Ur in the same boat I was. I got the programs installed and everything. But that Windows Media Player plain sucks, it doesn't look a dang thing like the Windows Version, and it plays videos pretty poorly (then again, I was trying to watch HD Videos, but Quicktime handled them pretty nicely) Speaking of which, I hate how they bundle quicktime in with OS/X but they don't bother to give you Pro while they are at it, I mean, it has full screen and everything, I'm sick of having over an inch being taken away because of the play controls, OH well. But yeah, jus use Flip4Mac, and make sure you get 3viX, and if you have 3viX, would you need to have DivX too, I have them both installed, but I don't know if I really need the both of them...
To the above poster, I know there are a few Applescripts out there that will let you play QT files full screen without paying for Pro. Google it.
As for the question of Office 2004, what do you need it for? Do you need absolute compatability for business, etc? If so, I'd say go for it. But if not, try NeoOffice, which is free and compatible with Office file formats.
