Hi guys, just wondering if anyone has received their new unibody with Apple distributed SSD, what brand is being used for the 128 and 256gb varieties?

Thanks

Yeah the reports so far indicate a variety of brands pre WWDC 09, though It would be interesting for someone with a post WWDC unibody to confirm if there has been a change

I don't have a lot of confidence in Apple shipped SSDs. Mine is a crappy Samsung 128 and it is as slow as molasses coming outta snails ass.

The toshibas are apparently crap too

don't buy any samsung/corsair and toshiba ssd's, real snails without firmware update possibility ..

intel/kingston, ocz vertex/summit/, supertalent ultrame, g.skill falcon are the right choice. :D

When you say slow, slow compared to what? High end drives like the Intel and Vertex, or compared to regular hdds?

I'll let you know tomorrow when I get my post WWDC 13" MBP

Dajman are you going to install BootCamp & Win7 ? If so would you mind posting a screenshot of CrystalDiskInfo running on the machine ? It shows the LBA mode and the SATA Transfer mode - I'm curious to know what it will say about the Apple SSD and the SATA bus.

Thanks !

What kind of computer is this? Rev A MBA or like a newer Unibody MacBook with SSD? And yeah, compared to what?

Can anyone confirm yet what SSD is being used in the latest unibodies..

Specifically the 256GB...

I just got my new unibody MPB with 256 SSD last week, here's the info from System Profiler. I would guess the TS stands for Toshiba? Someone who knows more than I do would have to comment.

Capacity: 233.76 GB
Model: APPLE SSD TS256A

Apple is still using the old and crappy version of corsairs. The new ones use samsung controllers and are fast.

I do recommend just getting the SSD yourself from Newegg. You get better choices from there and cheaper as well.

Why is Apple sticking with the slow SSDs???

I mean, from how they describe them on Apple.com ("...they increase durability...") I think they know that these are not fast drives.

You would think that this company would want the best for their laptops.

My guess is cost. They are probably getting a really good deal on these.

You'd think so from the pricetag, but the only thing that's "the best" is the unibody enclosure itself. OK, the fans, the trackpad and the battery are high end stuff. The screens are pretty high end (save for the toy-grade resolution on the 13" and 15" models. But the rest -- AGERE firewire chipset, Broadcom BT/WiFi, the AWFUL RealTek sound chip, the unremarkable 9600M, the selection of hard drives... all that stuff is second rate junk. Shareholders first, customers last.
