It's one of those idiotic "if you photograph something made by Rams from exactly the right angle then it looks like an Apple product" pictures.
It's black and it's round. That's it.
It's not symmetrical. It's not shiny. It doesn't have round edges and a huge hole at the top, it has a straight edge with a groove and a lighter! off the centre. It doesn't have a round edge at the bottom but a straight edge. It has a huge, huge button at the front that has more than 60% of the height of the whole thing.
Some people have read that Ive was inspired by Dieter Rams. He was inspired by a guy creating great designs and as a result tries to create great designs (and succeeds). He is not inspired by Rams' designs to copy them.
I'm not saying he copied them. He was inspired by them and that's amazing! I think Dieter Rams is marvellous. I also think Jony is marvellous. I'm the biggest Apple defender there is.
You know how "there's no such thing as a new idea", well I agree - many people design and create amazing, novel things and all those people draw inspiration and influence from other amazing things. If Jony drew inspiration from this, then so be it! It's great! It would probably be rather radical to design a computer around the design of a lighter.
But you know what, maybe he never saw this. Perhaps the Mac Pro wasn't inspired by this. That's great too!
