I'm looking for a second browser to use for websites that don't play nice with Safari and I don't want to use Chrome, so I thought I might try Brave.
Any problems?
Does it block ads on YouTube?
TIA.

You could check out Chromium, which is Chrome without all the Google bits.

You may want to look into a few of the controversies surrounding Brave if that sort of thing matters to you.

Firefox remains an excellent, fast, privacy-minded browser, and you can install Privacy Badger and Ad Nauseam which will block a lot of the worse ads.

Brave is my daily driver. I know there are complaints about how they've handled their opt-in advertising and their cryptocurrency stuff, but I don't use any of that and therefore don't care at all. I like that I don't have to mess with extra add-ons, and it's noticeably faster than Chrome.

Working fine in Big Sur on my 2015 MBP. Although I will say I'm tempted to go back to Safari for daily use with the updates in Big Sur...

Yeah, I won't be using any of that.

No add-ons is the main reason I am considering Brave. Faster is a big plus.

I am happy with Safari except for the aforementioned problem sites.

I've been using Firefox as my secondary browser on Big Sur. I have gotten regular crashes though when it's doing multiple downloads. Safari on Big Sur has been outstanding. Far better than I have experienced in the past.

I have been using Brave with Catalina for most of the year, but after I upgraded to Big Sur, I started having connection problems. Even after uninstalling and reinstalling Brave, I received “Your connection was interrupted” errors and incomplete page loads. Sometimes the pages would load after a few seconds, and other times not. I finally gave up and uninstalled Brave for good. Now I'm using Firefox without any issues.

If I set an alternate browser like Brave as default, if I highlight some text in Apple Mail and do internet search, it still opens Safari.

Anyone know how to make it open my default browser instead of Safari ?

I have Brave set as default browser so I can go on Youtube with zero adverts. Can also browse Daily Mail UK site, every other browser won't let me unless I disable ad blocker. However I generally start up Safari for everything else as I just prefer it in general use.

I would recommend Vivaldi, it's very fast and privacy minded.
