I agree with the original poster. At least make web version of suggestion 2-5. If other services can do it why can't Apple.

They don't want to. It doesn't fit their business model. iTunes has always been the "hub" of the "i" experience.

I'm not convinced they know what they want. And they clearly have done some parts of this. Separate iBooks.app, Podcast.app, MacAppStore.app.

I think they just have let iTunes languish too long. They can totally rip out the above apps (or some version of that) into separate apps, just like they did for those above.

I think they should separate iTunes into smaller, more focused apps but that it should mirror the way iOS handles it. One Music app, one Videos app, one Podcast app, an optional iTunes U app from the App Store, and move audiobooks to iBooks. Upgrade iSync to handle wired syncing for those of us who use it. Clean and simple.

I coud see iOS app store move into a consolidated App Store on MacOS. and still be able to sync apps onto your device without it being into iTunes. (The same way you used to sync iPhotos, iBooks, etc).

iTunes can be both iTunes Music and Apple Music, the store may take the brunt of the change by being "Apple Music" and anything you want to own will go into iTunes, but if you subscribe to Apple Music you either stream, store, or buy it and keeps it sort of separate but equal.
