I found the iPad page on Amazon finally, no pre-orderes currently but you can sign up to be notified.
Maybe Amazon does not have pre-orders right now because of their kindle?
Because usually they have pre-orderes on Apple products as soon as they are announced.

Key advantage to order on Amazon is you will not pay sales tax.

There aren't any pictures and the product description are way to general. Either Apple is hiding something with Amazon or they are just waiting for the release date.

It's not Apple, i have seen many pages like this for new products.
It will get updated a few days before a pre-order date or release day.

It's been there since the launch. It also use to have pictures, Apple probably told them to take it down or remove the pics

It's not breaking news. This page has been discussed right here before and it's coming down was also disussed. Also, you do pay tax at Amazon in some states ... I know I did in CA but not in NC. AFAIK you pay if Amazon has a physical warehouse or office in that state.

In the past, shipment of the pre-ordered Apple products seemed to happen at least several days and sometimes even a couple of weeks after the release dates.

Just a heads-up for anyone expecting a day-one arrival if Amazon allows pre-orders.

I know it's "all about money", but I still find it rather amusing that Amazon would want to sell the iPad--a device that may severely curtail the sales of their own Kindles.

Nope i never did, even when my orderes got shipped from Cali..
And i spent a few $$$$'s for years..

Amazon doesn't charge tax to California residents. However, I'm certain everyone in the state reports online purchases on their state taxes and pays up and the end of the year. Right everyone? :p

Bahahahahahahahahahahahhhhhhhaaaaaaaaa

Oh and for those who said this was no breaking news, that is why it put a "?" :)

It means you can sign up to be notified when Amazon carries it. I've done that for countless Blu-ray titles, especially TV show seasons that are on now. I've also done it for the Lord of the Rings extended version trilogy, which Amazon said is planned for release next year.

I have also signed up for both Star Wars trilogies on BD, the first three Indiana Jones movies on BD and the Back to the Future trilogy on BD.

In other words, nothing big. Sign up if you want to be notified when Amazon has it for pre-order. That's about all.

Oh yes, you bet I do! Every year, when I do my taxes while sitting on the moon with a giant rabbit, I make sure to fill out what I buy online, as to make sure my state government gets its fair share. :)

Weird because I just pulled about 6 invoices from them. Items shipped to me in CA ... sales tax charged. Either way, some do pay ST at Amazon.

no tax in Cali unless the product is shipped from within California. Like a direct ship from Apple.

It's called nexus. A business must have a presence in the state you reside in order to charge sales tax. They can collect tax if they want, but it is ultimately the responsibility of the purchaser, not the seller. I have never paid tax on purchases directly to Amazon, however I have paid tax on Amazon resellers. It all depends on who you are buying from.
