I think apple breaking up iTunes is a stupid idea. I think opening one app for my podcasts, movies, and music and 3 apps being open will take up more RAM. I hope they don’t break up iTunes until the next os and one force everyone to adapt because I probably will still continue to run iTunes.

It'd take more RAM but makes better sense... iTunes does so many things and it's so different to iOS apps that nobody really understands it, too complex, too bloated.

Having separated apps in a similar fashion to their iOS counterparts (Music, Podcasts, ecc) is the way to go. I love iTunes and I use it everyday but it doesn't make sense anymore, it's prehistoric software, an anachronism.

Im not even sure the 'breakup' is considered to be about playback, but separating the store for example.

But even if they do separate out the three - why exactly would you want to play music and a podcast and a movie all at once?

If they break it up, perhaps they can fix the pieces.
I'm still using 10.4.1 because of the awful things they've done to music since 2011.
Of course, given the awful things I've read about their news service, I'm not sure that Apple has the programmers needed to fix anything anymore.

I wonder where would they put the iPhone/iPad syncing? I still perform a manual backup quite regularly to supplement iCloud backups.

Exactly. It won’t take up any more RAM because you’d only be using one at a time. Leave them open if you wish...it likely wouldn’t matter with the way macOS handles RAM.

Great point. I sync podcasts all the time via USB cable (WIFI sync is not reliable).

no one sees this as a big brother move whereas everyone listens to music and services?

since 2001 itunes was revolutionary and easy to use with good music feedback.
now the program cant organize files, sounds dull and does not work with devices without luck.
maybe they already started dismantling the program, well at least for me.

I hardly listen to music. No need for Apple Music for my rare music tastes. Downloads are just fine.

I’m not really sure what you even mean about points 1 or 2, but in general I find it works fine if plugged in. Wifi sync as others mentioned isn’t reliable.

And no, I don’t listen to streamed music.

I don't agree. I believe that iTunes has many features, especially for power users. What gave iTunes a bad name is the Windows version, which really is bad. I am afraid that if Apple splits iTunes in many apps, that we will lose a lot of functionality. I don't think that Apple will write new apps for macOS. They will just port the existing iOS apps, which will really suck. macOS and Macs in general are more powerful than iOS, and it should stay this way. iTunes could of course need a redesign, but Apple has other priorities..

seems to me  wants their sheep to use music instead of itunes.
i don't use either music service on 4  products i own.
but many other do use itunes,  should keep itunes for this reason.

No one is forcing you to upgrade. I will probably still stay on Mojave.
