Greetings everyone,

Mere days after receiving my computer from Apple (authorized retailer) for an unrelated display issue. I encountered the following problem.

After having connected the device to my apple studio display and having scheduled a frimware update for the displays aswell as the upgrade to 14.5 for the mac, I woke up in the morning to an expensive paperweight.

Having sent the device to the same dealer, I'm now being quoted a full device replacement.

Simply being miffed having to pay for what seems to be apple's software problem.

Did anyone encounter similar problems ?

I have not talked to the rep yet, to gain insight on the reason why they'd want me to cover the cost. Will update when I will.

I just wanted to get some ammo before going to the store tomorrow.

I don't trust this store, and it sounds to me like, before going to the store, you should speak directly with Apple support: 800 692 7753. Of course the retailer would love for you to buy another computer so they can make more money. But so soon after a repair (which itself should have a new 90-day warranty if you paid for it) and with AppleCare, I find it highly unlikely that your new issue wouldn't be covered. So I can't emphasize enough to speak with Apple first -- you may have to call a couple or even a few times to get someone who understands your issue to advise you properly, but it will be worth the effort.

Thank you for the feedback, will definitely proceed as you outlined.

"After having connected the device to my apple studio display and having scheduled a frimware update for the displays aswell as the upgrade to 14.5 for the mac, I woke up in the morning to an expensive paperweight."

A "Mac lesson" I've learned:
"Updates" like this are best done one-at-a-time, when you can be close by and monitor what's going on.

Sounds to me like the OP is NOT dealing with a brick 'n' mortar Apple Store, but instead with "an Apple authorized reseller" of some sort (3rd-party reseller).

masotime asks the proper question in reply 7 above.
