Bricked phone question

I have a friend (honest, really), who was offered a bricked iPhone. My question is, is there a way to restore it to virgin form or jailbroken form?

Try holding Home & Sleep until the iTunes icon appears or the screen just stays blank. Connect to iTunes and restore. If you can't even do that, you are SOL.
