Bridge anyone?

Good afternoon all,

I have about 15 years experience in design and advertising, using Quark and Adobe CS almost all of the time.

One thing I never use is Bridge. What exactly is it? Do any of you use it a lot? What advantages would it give me over not using it?

Bridge has always confused me. I'm just not sure what use it has exactly. Thanks for any and all responses.

The best use of Bridge (IMHO) is selecting photos. It allows you to rate them and sort or view by the ratings. The only other thing I use it for is to Batch Rename files.

If you have an old system, avoid bridge, its very clunky if youre working with large files, takes ages to boot and preview.

However, if youre on a fairly zippy system, its useful to leave open in the background as a preview tool and if youre simultaneously working between two or more programs.

photoshop has its file preview function - much the same as bridge really, but you cant organise and batch things in PS like you can in bridge, plus Im pretty sure you can 'copy' files directly within bridge from preview and just paste into programs.

It has its uses I guess, but the main one for me is to simply have a folder of images open running in the background, as appose to having to 'file>search' all the time - Im not that organised in naming my files.

Of course, if youre running leopard, you dont need bridge at all really as the new preview app does pretty much the same (and better!) in terms of just flicking quickly through file preview images.
