First one had to be exchanged for a dead pixel. This replacement seemed fine until the other day i noticed this round bright spot about the size of a dime. I can only see it on a white background. I've been searching online and have only really seen people having this issue on models with the home button, not the newer 2018 or 2020 models. Mine is a 2018 model 12.9" space grey 64gb.

I've attached an image but it is very hard to notice from a picture. It is more noticeable in person.

So i was just wondering if any one knew what may be causing this and if there is a fix maybe ? I doubt there is. Apple stores are closed where i live so it's hard to go speak with them.

Thanks.

I’d Recommend taking your iPad Pro to a Authorized Service Provider. If not, and your iPad is out of the 1 Year Warranty and you’re not using AppleCare+, take it to a 3rd Party Repair shop. There are many good ones out there.

As far as I know, there is not a fix for this. There are actual Faulty pixels in the Display. You’d have to go for a Full Display Replacement. This would likely cost you anywhere from $300-$500. While that seems like a lot, it’s mostly due to the fact that the 2018 and 2020 iPad Pros are much harder to Repair than iPads with a Home Button. If you are up to do it by yourself or have a Friend that would do the Labor for Free, replacement screens are around $300 at iFixit.com .

Hope this Helps.

Looks like some faulty pixels in the display. A friend of mine had to return one purchased from an Apple Store due to a similar issue which developed after a couple of days or so.

Apple REALLY needs to tighten up their QC with these new iPads. I also recently purchased and returned several of them to Best Buy here in Canada due to screen issues or physical damage straight out of the box. I hope the current 3-4 week long shipping delays are partly due to the fact they're taking the time to do more stringent quality checks at the end of the assembly line rather than just increased demand due to COVID and the education discount.

@Brighton Billy you must have the worst luck in purchased products from Apple. I remember not long ago the apple laptops you went through for dead pixels from your posts. Sorry to hear the iPad has not been much kinder.

Best of luck on your replancements.

Absolutely horrendous. it's not luck, it's Apple QC. Never had an Apple product with out issues. 99% it's issues with the screens.

Yup all my Apple stuff comes from Best buy in Canada too. Never bought an Apple product without some sort of screen issue. The laptops and iPads are the worst.

Nah i gave up. iPads are cursed.

I got a theory though. I think especially on the 12.9" that the display is too large and in turn it is too flimsy when you tap it. It has too much give maybe.

I know its a pain to wait for a replacement these days so if it still does the job you can live with it. As im still using iPad Pro 2017 with all the bright spots.

I can understand where you're coming from given your experiences. That's the important thing. Make decisions based on your own first-hand experiences.

I've owned nearly every generation of iPad from gen 1 to the Mini 5. None of them ever had a dead pixel, or hot pixel. None of them had any noteworthy backlight bleed. The first issue that I ever experienced with an iPad was with the 2015 12.9 iPad Pro.

After 2 years of use, one area of the screen began to intermittently ignore touches. It was the same area where other people were reporting a bright spot developed. That was when I traded it in for a surprisingly good trade-in value at Best Buy... the bright spot issue had been so prevalent (but ignored by Apple itself) that the Best Buy employees were instructed to specifically examine units for the bright spot before accepting the device as a trade-in.

Nearly every model iPad (Pro and non-pro) with a laminated screen larger than 9.7" seems to suffer from this bright spot issue. I'm not saying that every single unit will experience the problem, but that there doesn't seem to be a model where it isn't happening.

What is the root cause for this issue? Only Apple knows. Will Apple address the issue? Since it is hardware-related (not software), they will not proactively deal with it... because if they admit that it is a defect, they will be opening themselves up to millions of units being returned.

If someone owns one of these iPads (laminated screen larger than 9.7") they should determine for themselves if they are willing to live with the possibility of a bright spot developing.

For what it's worth, the only iPads I recommend that people buy (if they're looking for an iPad) is the Mini 5 (which I currently own and absolutely love) and the 8th gen (which I would buy in a heartbeat if I needed something larger than the Mini)... but that's nothing more than my opinion.

Is there a particular app that tests for pixel problems? Recommendations?

Every single piece of tech i buy that has a screen this is the first website i go to. Check the white & black screens for dead/stuck pixels. Black will also show things like backlight bleed. The other colors aren't important. Put it on full brightness and look close. Sometimes they don't jump out at you. When on the black screen try and be in a dark room and look for a pinhole of light shining through or a white pixel.
