Hi,

I purchased an iPad mini 5 today and was wondering if this bright spot on the right side of the display is anything I need to worry about. I have uploaded a photo, but it's barely visible in it. Basically it looks like that section of the screen has its very own LED. It's only visible when the backlight is low and I am viewing a white or light colored screen. I know that I have 14 days to exchange it, but I don't want to get into a vicious cycle looking for flawless displays.

Thank you in advance.

Can’t see anything. It’s better to get checked by Apple either way.

I wouldn’t bother.. if it worries you get Apple care and be happy about your new iPad. Playing the lottery can also mean you can get a worse one. LCD screens aren’t perfect. There will be some variation

That’s how my pro started now it’s all up one side. I’d recommend apple store visit only as I had this experience. By the time I took mine up it had just gone out of warranty so I’m stuck with it

Take a trip to the Apple Store.

Thank you for all of the answers. I didn’t want to be “that guy” who shows up at the Apple Store with “see that spot here...?”, but I think getting it checked out is a good idea. As always, you guys rock!

This issues seems to have gone away on its own, or at the very least, is intermittent. Very strange. Is it possible it's a stuck pixel?

A stuck pixel would be a single small (sometimes groups) square not changing. Does it show white on black or vise versa? Or is it just the backlight is literally just brighter in that area?

If it’s just brighter and it is gone now, it could be the glue or something in the display had to fully dry. Usually that causes a yellowing issue, but it could do that as well.

It’s only visible on white or gray backgrounds, particularly with a lower screen brightness level. If I pull up an image of a solid black background and make it full screen, it’s not visible. And I discovered it’s not really gone, it’s just much fainter now. The reason I’m so hesitant to swap it out is because, other than that, the display is flawless. I’m just concerned that this could be indicative of a hardware issue that will become a major problem at some point in the future.

Sounds like a bright spot then. Yeah, the screen lottery sucks. I actually got my iPad replaced March of last year because of a bright spot right above the home button. I was lucky because the display is flawless in all ways now.

I say go ahead and get a replacement. It’s something that will probably be bugging you every time you use it. I know it did me. Plus as you said it might get worse with time.

Thank you for your help, Sunshoopa. What causes bright spots? Is it a defect with the display or an issue with the backlight?

No problem! No one knows exactly why, but it’s something to do with the backlight though yeah. People maybe thought it was the internals behind the display heating up and damaging the display/backlight, but that doesn’t really explain why it happens on random devices like that. Although it could be whatever protects the display from heat isn’t right in that area.
