Ok. So I got bored with the stock iPhone wallpapers. I googled "bright iPhone X wallpapers" (I like the notch and don't mind showing it, lol) and saved this bright-greenish image from Google and set it as a Wallpaper, both lock and home screens.

The font is a very dark grey-almost black, and the shading around the bottom dock where my Phone, iMessage, Camera, and Safari apps are no longer shows the white shading. See what I mean?

Could this be a bug with iOS 11? Or something that is natural when using bright wallpapers? This is the first time I ever seen this and I've had bright wallpapers before...Kind of reminds me of the iPhone 5C days.

I love this look and would keep it, except - now the home screens have a slight lag when swiping back and forth between pages.

I am running iOS 11.2.6

This has been how it works for many many versions of iOS. I think maybe even since wallpapers were introduced.
It’s to make it more legible. Your speed issue is likely unrelated.

The speed issue resolves itself when reverting back to a stock iPhone wallpaper.

Yes I just did that. Same shudder when swiping back and forth between home screens. Same thing happens on my friend's iPhone 6S Plus.

Do you manually alphabetize your apps like that?

Yes, always.

This color change has been the case since iOS 7.

As for the lag, it gets talked about in this thread: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/issue-with-lag-on-the-x-only-with-using-wallpapers.2103117/

I read somewhere that converting the wallpaper to jpeg helped when they were experiencing this on their iPhone 7 Plus.

Thank you for this!
