I was in the Apple store today checking out Leopard, and also did a comparison between the 15 and 17 inch (HD vers) models brightness, and they both looked about the same to me. Then I went to Frys Electronics to pick up something and did a comparison there too, they had the 15" LED of course but only the standard def 17" model (1680 rez). When looking at both at the same time with brightness all the way up, the 17" model looked quite dim while the 15" model looked extremely white. Now I know store lighting ambiance makes all the difference, but I was really surprised how dim the standard def 17" looked. Is it possible that their model is defective or is the HD 17" model much brighter?

I went ahead and bought a 17" HD (1920 rez) MBP yesterday and I must say I'm impressed and happy with the brightness levels. I guess it mjust have just been the lighting at Frys that made the 1680 rez 17" model look crappy.

From my experience the brightness of both machines are the same, only that the 15'' LED backlight goes to full brightness faster.
