When I push the brightness key on the keyboard, the appropriate image comes up on screen and goes to full brightness, but the actual brightness of the screen doesn't change and the lack of change is reflected correctly on the brightness slider in System Preferences.

Anybody else seen this?

This is an old post, but I am having the same problem on my brand new MBA. Did anyone find why and, most important, the solution?

Have you tried resetting your SMC, using the COPS process?:

1. Shut down your MBA.
2. On the keyboard, press and hold the left Control key, the left Option key, and the left Shift key.
3. While holding those three keys down, press and hold the Power button for 6 seconds. Then, release all keys/buttons.

Your MBA should start up normally. Once it's running, see if you can still reproduce the problem.
