first of all, does brightness change battery life at all? or is it very minor that i shouldn't even bother?

2nd, how do i reset the brightness to the default? i see some settings there but i'm afraid it might reset some other settings as well. can anyone enlighten me w/ some of those resets?

lastly, how should i keep the brightness? auto on? bright screen or dark screen? does having iphone bright too much will shorten the life span of the screen?

thx.

Yeah if you keep your brightness at the maximum you will less less battery life. But i all ways keep it in the middle and never have problems with battery life.

the default brightness is in the middle i think. thats where it was when i got my iphone.

and i dont know about the life of the actual screen if you leave on high brightness. but why would you want to? its too bright. the middle is perfect.

Default is in the middle, should have went to that after upgrading to 2.2

Keep it way down with auto-brightness on. It will automatically adjust to how much light you need. It may seem dark at first, but you will get used to it.

Here's mine, if that helps.

can someone explain "auto brightness" because for the life of me, i don't see the brightness changing (like a blackberry does) when i enter a dark room or out in the bright sun.

the brightness just stays static.

It does essentially what the BBs do, but it doesn't change as frequently or significantly. It is more noticeable with firmware 2.2, however. If I unlock my iPhone in a dark room it opens at setting brightness and then quickly dims down.

thk u small white car, that actually helps. : )

can anyone else post their brightness setting screen as well?

i put mine on middle one time and under a lighting the iphone seemed too bright.

Sure, I guess so, but I'm confused... why not just set it to a level that makes you comfortable? This is mine, anyway -- seems to be just slightly brighter than Small White Car's.

As far as the auto brightness adjuster, though, it is what it is (you may find it doesn't adjust enough), and so you may run into the problem that your iPhone will be dim in some places and bright in others, but there's less you can do about that. :(
