I just figured there should be a post in here that isn't tearing down the new iMac. I just got my stock 2.4ghz machine yesterday and I just can't help be amazed by it. Apple may not have pleased some of the pickier people out there but they sure pleased the average, easily impressed computer user. I was making my first movie yesterday on it and I am just blown away at how much faster this machine renders my movies. I know i'm no graphic designer or anything but this machine does way more for the majority of computer users out there than i could ever ask. Again i'm not trying to put down any of the other critics in this forum, but i just felt the iMac's spirit needed a bit of lifting.

I completely agree with the OP. These anti-imac threads are driving me nuts. I think the mods should create another section under hardware for all the negative threads. j/k but I too LOVE my new imac!

The hysteria around here concerning the iMac is strange even by internet forum standards. I have had one for 3 days now (my first Mac) and I am very happy with it.

One must see the computer in person to appreciate the design, photographs do not do it justice. I liked the previous design, but after seeing them together at the Apple Store the older design looks like a toy. The new design is simple, elegant and blends in with decor. It doesn't scream "Hey look at me!".

I'm surprised there are not more positive comments about the fit and finish, it really is superb!

The glossy display is fine, reflections are not a problem in a home lighting scenario.

Keyboards are a matter of taste, I like this one. If somebody really does hate the new design I'm sure one could get $35 - $40 for it on ebay and buy themselves a nice beige Microsoft model.

Today there seems to be a lot of comments about heat. The top becomes warm to the touch, not hot, even after an hour of encoding video. Aluminum provides excellent heat transfer so this is not surprising. Warm outside means cooler inside. Comments like "tremendous heat" are bunk.

I have used Linux exclusively at home for the last year. So, I am not predisposed to favorable comments about commercial computer products. I think the new iMac is a great computer.

This is what I like to hear... so many people that are complainig never saw the new imac in person. I will give an honest review as soon as my new imac arrives (should be here Tuesday/Wed). Right now I feel good about my purchase, but all the negative comments do get you down (all the negativity gets old quickly). Apple is going for the family and that is fine for me

I am sure the grahics card can handle Dora's Big Adventure for my 3 yo.

I agree. When the new iMacs were announced, I didn't really like the new design, but when I saw them in person yesterday, I was very impressed. I'm on the verge of buying one (24", 2.8Ghz), I'm just trying to find out how well Aperture runs on it (with the new video card). It's either that or waiting for a new Mac Pro...

I'm typing this on my old imac G4 'lamp' and looking forward to getting a new 24" 2.8GHz model later this week (currently finding its way out of China). To be honest it's only been in the last 6 months or so that I have began to notice this imac being slow and only for some tasks.

It's really a desire to actually do something with my digital videos and the gradual slow down of iphoto which is driving the change.

If I was working on a 4 year old PC i'm pretty sure life would be much different !!

The point is that macs are not about having the absolute latest and greatest hardware components so that your viruses run really fast. For me and many others macs are about doing stuff that matters on a computer that is easy to use and great with the digital media which we find all around us these days.

If I want the best game experience i will buy a PS3 for a few hundred quid ... last time round I had a PS2 and an imac this time round I will pass on the playstation .... life is too short for all that 2nd life stuff !!

I agree. The drama has become almost unbearable. Thread after thread filled with repeated complaints about the same few issues.

Perhaps that's good news for Apple. History has shown that the more Netizens complain about the design of an Apple product, the more of them they sell.
