Found this thread on Reddit last night and thought I’d share with my fellow Mac OS users who miss that Mac startup noise:

This worked for me on my 2017 MBP. Always loved this startup noise with my Macs (2014 Mac Mini, 2015 MBA) - was pretty bummed when my 2017 MBP didn’t have it. Wall-E is one of my favorite movies - love that “charge is full” noise.

sudo nvram StartupMute=%00

Basically typing the above in Terminal worked for me - make sure volume is up then give your Mac a reboot. I don’t reboot mine too often but now I’ve got something to look forward to.

Happy Saturday!

Also works on a 2018 MacBook Pro 15". The sound is a little different compared to the traditional "bong" though.

Nice hack - amazed that apple haven't included this option in System Preferences - but to be honest I had never noticed it gone, just thought that the volume had been muted.

I was talking about the story in the first post, that goes from reddit to 9to5mac to twitter.
If we are going to deep dive in searches, the above post from reddit mentions %100 and is from Jan 20, while %00 is probably first mentioned on Jan 21 here https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...ceived-your-new-mac-pro.2220428/post-28161448 and Jan 22 here https://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?uid=16&f=3&t=106102&start=0#p587428 depending on the time zone used by each site.
Nice find...all about the same date. I was just quoting the earliest source I was able to track down. Still wonder about the first source.
