Bringing in my macbook to fix yellowing, not to apple. !?

So i have been waiting to get my yellowing macbook fixed for a while..due to school and that it was soo faint.
So i called applecare today, and they told me i had to bring it in, i asked if they could just ship me a box and i send it to them, they said that was only for the USA. So they gave me the name of the ONLY store in my city, its alphkore computers. sounds sketchy.

So i was wondering if anyone has had someone other the applestore or apple repair the yellowing.. Cause i need it done, and i really really want the new bezel and my trackpad button is making funny noises i was expecting it all to be replaced..

So do other places do as good of a job? or better?
or will i not get anything besides the immediate palmrest replaced?

Unfortunately it is pointless to even ask, because that store is pretty much your only option.

Hence regardless of "whether they will give me more freebies or not?", "they will do better service?", and various other questions you raised... even if the answers to those questions are stacked against you, what are you gonna do about it?

Take a holiday and live in a hotel room for a week just to get it fixed in another store? Not bloody likely.

Just send it in and quit worrying, you will be merrier for it.

sorry to hijack this thread, but how do the replacement palm rests stand up?

i've been meaning to get mine replaced since it is quite obviously more discolored than it should be. but i am afraid to get it replaced fi i will just end up with the same problem again in a month.

Oh i dont want freebies, its that i have heard apple replaces the whole interior basically, keyboard, palms, trackpad, bezel.. and i want that done too for various reasons.. i just dont want to not get it haha

and the new palms are said to be fixed, and wont stain yellow anymore. so once you get it fixed its white for good. So get it done, i have been waiting for a couple months due to school, and because i thought it would be to faint, and honestly it kinda has been depressing because i have to look at this ugly stained macbook that was once so pretty...

I don't how much of an issue it actually is... I know a lot of people that have had problems with their iBooks staining and nothing was ever done about it...the best solution to that is the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. It does wonders.

actually the macbook yellowing was a huge issue, remember that thread about it back in teh summer? it was like 10 pages long...
anyway.. yes its a big issues and magic eraser wont fix it, it was a problem with the plastic apple used in making the macbooks... so they gotta replace it, they already said they would when i called.

Apple has a lot of independent, certified repair shops that will do just as good a job as Apple will. I work at one.

You'll get a new top-case (Keyboard, trackpad, all that stuff). I haven't seen any yellowing bezels, but that's easy to replace as well.

Yeah so i brought it in this morning, and the 'apple expert' was there... Nice guy.
I asked what would be replaced, he said the keys, trackpad, button, and palmrests.. no bezel.. I think i can live..

It was wierd though, he said he will order the part and call me when it comes in, and if i dont come back to get my macbook repaired in 1-2 days of calling me he has to ship the part back to apple and cant re-order the same part again for 30 days..

It was super odd.. has anyone heard of this?

Not with Apple, but other companies do this with some of their independent retailers and repairers. It sounds fine to me, and the work is most likely guarenteed. It is a pretty easy fix, you could probably actually DIY it.

Actually that is very good service. What I have here is to check my Mac in, and they give me their usual fare about how it takes 2-3 days for them to do some tests on it. After that it is roughly 2-3 weeks of "waiting on parts" before I get my machine back.

It was surprisingly good service, but its the ONLY apple repair shop in my city of like 600 000 people.. i guess they have to be good..?
But it seems macs havent caught on here, so they dont get to much business. I am really just stoked having a new looking macbook again, not one that looks 5 years old, and is yellowing from time and use...
And yeah, he said the repair wont be longer then a day, so i was happy with that !

I just took my MB into the Apple store yesterday to get a trackpad issue sorted out, and they're replacing the whole inside panel (ie. keyboard, palm rests, trackpad).

I noticed on the repair document it said that I was due to have a "version 2" panel replaced. The version 2 panels seem to be rougher surfaced, but they hold up a lot better to yellowing.

A friend has an older Macbook with horrific yellowing. I'm guessing that he has a version 1 palm rest, and it's noticably smoother surfaced but yellows faster.

So it seems that the version 2 replacement panels are a lot better
