Where exactly does the new MBA bring the Ipad together with the Macbook?

The two most defining aspects of the Ipad are the touchscreen and the reader like handling. The MBA offers neither.

If the MBA would allow to flip the screen completely over to get a reader like form factor and then control things via multitouch, then it would have brought the Ipad to the Macbook and I would be very temped to buy one.

This way I will just wait until the Ipad comes with a higher resolution screen some day in the future.

Well the flash storage and instant on are some things, the long stand by life, the batteries, but ultimately you are right, a bit of a bs marketing pitch that one.

The direction Apple is turning is clear: Get the Mac experience closer to the Iphone/Ipod/Ipad one to draw more customers to buy Macs. Jobs already underlines the "integrated" vs. the "fragmented" experience as a key factor for Apple (customers).

What Bouncer1 said in terms of features borrowed. However we disagree in how useful the product is :) Along with the cheaper price points, the higher screen res is more than welcome. I like them. I have no doubts they will sell much better than the previous Air did. We got what was needed. More RAm and storage space. The lack of backlit keyboard is definitely a minus but not a deal breaker for me
