Hey I have recently purchased an iphone. He sold me a broken 3g 16gb he told me it just stopped working one day, the phone wont turn on at all but when you hook it up with a usb cord the screen turns white. It shows no sign of being dropped and looking in the headphone jack its white. I looked up the serial number and it is under limited warranty. My question is if I take it to the genius bar would they not replace it because the serial number isn't under my name and also does it sound like it would be covered under warranty?

Im sure your warranty is still good it hasnt been a year yet since the 3G came out and also when you do go to the Genius bar they dont ask for ID so you can go as whoever sold it. So just give it a try. The worst thing they can do is just say "no" that they cant replace it.

hey thanks for the help they replaced it and were very nice about it. King of prussia mall apple store thumbs up to you!

can anyone confirm that you can say you bought it from a friend or do you need to be the person who bought the iphone to receive a replacement under warranty????
