hey guys!

So my Touch ID sensor has failed, it happened on update between iOS10 beta 4 and beta 5. Def not a software issue, as I have restored to iOS9.3.4

In the settings Touch ID cannot be enabled , it just gives a failed message. I have done extensive research into this issue and truly believe the hardware is at fault.

Anyway, after accepting this I have found I cannot upgrade back to iOS10.

The software prepares, extracts , applies , then when the phone reboots it shows the contect to iTunes screen and the phone has to be restored ( to iOS 9.3.4 ).

Is there any opinion out there as to if the Touch ID sensor has failed you are unable to update to the latest software?

I do wonder if it's a requirement for public betas , and the GM will be ok.

Edit - warranty ran out a month ago -_-

Somebody else posted about a similar issue yesterday. You might see search to see if they had a resolution. Also, just being a month out of warranty, I'd take it in to an Apple Store. They might surprise you and still service it as if still under warranty.

Have you tried a DFU Restore?
Yep, no change

New Zealand don't have apple stores unfortunately.
Means I have to open a support ticket which automatically gives a "no warranty left " message :/

The touch ID sensor failed on my 5S about two years ago (It also completely disappeared from the settings menu). In the end, I had to take it back to Apple and they exchanged.
Definitely a hardware problem. At the time, the genius bar guy said they have never seen this problem before...
