The case latch on my wife's 3,1 appears to be broken. It looks like the center pin is not unlatching.

Is there anyplace I can push through one of the holes to help the latch along?

I have a 4,1 so not sure if it differs. The nature of the mechanism on mine means you can’t push it open from the front, or really force it anywhere as far as I can tell except from near the latch itself. If the latch is already open somewhat it looks like maybe you could force it manually with a push. But when it’s closed the orientation prevents you from simply pushing it laterally open. You’d need to exert downward force on the horizontal part of the latch inside the case, which would hard to do. Maybe if you looped some wire from a hole below it, but that would be challenging. I can take some pictures or clarify if it helps but not sure how pertinent my model is to yours. Good luck!

I'll have a look at my 5,1.

I was able to open it by pushing the latch with a small phillips screwdriver about 5-6 holes below the optical drive door about 3 holes in.
