I have a late 2011 MBP 15 inch. I discovered that the WiFi did not work and I set to find out why. I found the problem was the cable that connects the airport card to the logic board had half the socket rip off from the ribbon cable and still in the logic board. I purchased a replacement cable but cannot get the broke piece out of the logic board. I tried using the pointy end of a plastic spudger to get it out but no luck.

Just wanted some suggesting on how to get it out.

Thank you.

I'm guessing that you bought this old MBPro, with the idea that you could perhaps fix the wifi?
I think you should be able to remove that broken connector. I have a magnifying craft light that works pretty good to help with those kind of repairs.
From your picture, I think that you should work across the middle of the connector, coming from the right side of the picture, about one-third of the connector length. You should be able to work that connector loose from there. I hope it is not more damaged underneath that broken part.

Yes that was my hope, this is for my 12 year old. I figure if this lasted a year then I made it out like a bandit. I don't have a magnifying craft light but it may be worth it. The ifixit plastic spudger was not big to get underneath it. i may try and exacto knife. I did wonder how it broke like that, I just hope no one superglue it but if they did I can always go with a usb work around.

thanks for the suggestion.

I'm quite positive you ruined the component, or at least that's what I get from the picture. A macro shot would be welcomed.

However, from that picture alone, it seems the SM component was broken. The only way to replace it is to desolder it.

Can you show a picture of that end of the ribbon cable?
I think that the broken part is from the ribbon cable, and is stuck on the logic board connector.
Maybe some gentle "urging", maybe with that broad end of the spudger, will loosen that piece. I would work on the center area, and NOT on the sides of that connector. Good luck!

yes you are correct, I am not at home to take a picture but when i unplugged it half of it was still on the ribbon.

I think the connector/socket on the logic board is still good. If... the previous person did not use some kind of adhesive to hold the ribbon connector.

Update

I went to hobby lobby and bought a magnifying craft light and using and exacto knife the rest of the connector came off.
the socket part looks undamaged.
