See the bold text on this screenshot - what can the problem be?

I think Google tries to use Arial if it's available... I guess if it's not, then it will use your choice of sans serif font. So look in your preferences for what you have set as the sans serif font (Firefox -> prefs -> Content -> advanced button under fonts).

If you're using a custom style sheet of your own, then an error in the syntax might also cause this.
 
i fixed it - found the solution on another site - i had many duplicate fonts including ARIAL ttf from Windows, deleting all that solved the issue
