Broken iMac G5 as Monitor?

I recently got hold of an iMac G5 with a broken Logic Board and I was wondering is it possible to use it as an additional monitor for my new 21.5" intel iMac?

The only problem is when the broken iMac G5 is turned on it only gets to the Apple logo and wheel screen then the fans come on full power (which are pretty annoying)

So heres my Dilemma... if it is possible to use the computer as an additional monitor is it also possible to disconnect the broken Logic Board so that the fans do not start up?

I forgot to mention that I have ordered a BELKIN MDP TO MDP CABLE to connect the 2 computers, but I've yet to receive it to try it out.

You wont be able to use the built-in monitor for an external screen. This is because the screen is tethered to the Graphics Card and couldnt be used as something you can just plug-in to an iMac. And Target Screen mode doesnt work on iMacs before the latest revision. The only thing to do would be to disassemble the iMac and remove everything out and then somehow mount an external monitor in the case, running the power and connector cables via the power socket hole in the iMac.

I understand what you mean but im pretty clueless when it comes to Mac hardware. Is this something an amateur should attempt? or should I look for someone with a bit of experience to try and tackle it?

Id probably say that in many respects its pointless, but its probably not to be attempted unless your a serious Modder (not necessarily Mac based, but youll need skills with tools and a good way of mounting the screen inside the iMacs case). Itd probably be easier just to get an identical iMac G5 with a broken screen and then mix the 2 into a single working iMac G5 - thatd make a nice spare machine

but tbh I think its a goner, its gona cost at least £150 ($220) for a new logic board and I can pick up a brand new 20" LCD display for £90 ($130) but thanks for the help guys!
