Brother rep says although, MFC-240c printer is NOT compatible with OS X 10.11, try the following:
1) Download the Brother drivers for OS X 10.10 to see if it will make MFC-240c work with OS X 10.11. (Not supported and no guarantee from Brother)
2) Check with Apple to see, if there are any "built in drivers" for MFC-240c in OS X 10.11.
Anyone out there with real world experience here, I'd appreciate hearing your experience. Thanks!

I have a Brother MFC-J870DW and the Brother web site shows no El Capitan drivers for it either, but everything works fine with the Yosemite drivers I just left in place. So might work for you also.

I have a brother J220. It works well with EC. The J 220 is some years old. You would think if any printer would not work it is that one. I made no changes for EC. Look in system prefs Printer, and discover yours again.
