Browse Files On Remote Server App?

I'm looking to set up a web server (for private use only) for storing and viewing all my movies and tv shows remotely. I've gotten tired of having to sync media between all my devices and it would be much easier to just keep all my content on a large networked drive at my house then use port forwarding so I could connect to it using subdomain.mydomain.com. I know how to do that part easily but does anyone know of an app so I can browse the server remotely. I've gotten everything converted into iphone/ipad/appleTV/Mac compatible formats and being able to watch these movies on my ipad or iphone would be great. I've seen dozens of apps to browse computers but does anyone know of one where I can just connect to subdomain.mydomain.com?

Their are allot of companies out their that will allow you to do this sort of thing, but I dont suggest any of them since they will be slow and will restrict how much space you can have. Your best bet is a company that offers this service for a fee, at this moment I am not sure of any outside of actual servers, although a few years back this was a huge thing and allot of companies started allowing this feature. A popular one (from google) is http://www.myotherdrive.com/ Im not sure of their pricing but they have a 2GB free account (back to my point of not doing it for free.....), but atleast you can test its service before paying. I think what the OP is saying is that they want to use their own networked drive at home, to store everything on, that all the devices connect to and view media from....not an external service like DropBox etc.

If there is a way to do this, I'm not aware of it. I already keep all of my media on a large storage linux box in my house. I share this to all the TV's in my house. I wish I could connect to it from the web and stream to my iphone. That would be sweet. But I don't see it happening without a jailbreak, and even then I've never heard of it.

Try Briefcase. I don't think it will stream your movies but it will allow you to download one. I haven't tried viewing one. There is a lite version that will allow you to try it while on the same wifi network. The paid version allows connecting over 3G.

For your iphone, you can use Air Video. I don't know if it works on the iPad, I have not received my 3G. I do not know what devices you are talking about, so I will give you some alternatives that may work for you. Air video will convert and then play or convert on the fly. I really like this app. Convert on the fly start playing in less than a minute. (conversion is done on the computer hosting the video)

Tversity (free). It has a DLNA setup and is used by allot of Xbox and PS3 users. It also has a web setup to allow streaming over the internet. Tversity has a free desktop app that you use to select which folder you want to share. I have not tried this out but you can check this out and the setup instructions from their website.

Last, there is ORB. If I am not mistaken, this is suppose to allow you to view your content over 3G. Orb has three iPhone apps, (I don't know the particulars of each app) and a desktop app (free) in which you select what folders you want to share.

Look for a generic FTP / AFP app. I use ezShare Pro, however I do not know if that will let you stream movies. It DOES allow Music though.
