Hi there,

I wonder if someone out there knows how I can browse my jailbroken iphone to retreive cycorder video's. (so i can view on my imac.)

I've tried using Fugu

with the following settings:

Connect to: (I'm using the ip adddress as found on my iphone in wifi settings)

username: Root (as suggested in many forums)

Port: 22 (as suggested in forums

How do I connect my iphone to my mac?...via wifi or create ad hoc network and connect the two of them via that?

Any help greatly appreciated!

You explained it fine. You can connect with Fugu and pull them off. Are you having connection issues with Fugu? You didn't post that you were. :)

won't connect

Ahhh yeah sorry should have said what the exact problem was!! heh.

Basically it just refuses to connect...just says connection refused.

I wonder if someone could run through exactly how they connect (with Fugu).

I need baby stepping through it!

Cheers

So you are using the following on your own wireless network:
Username: root
Password: alpine
Using IP address of your iPhone?

When you say "own wireless network' I assume you mean my broadband connection between my mac and iphone, rather than an ad hoc network created by me.

Also there is no password section, just "connection" "username" "port" and "Directory".

Yeah, your own as in you have a router. For example, not on a college campus wireless network or any other network that you do not control. :)

As for Password, you should be prompted after clicking connect one the Connect To and Username fields are filled in. All other should be blank. If that still doesn't work, you may need to clear your known_hosts file. Hit Shift-:apple:-G and type in: ~/.ssh and open the known_hosts file, clear the text and save. Retry again. :)

no luck

nope this doesn't work...have tried "Hit Shift--G and type in: ~/.ssh" it just says folder can't be found.

AHHHHHH this is very frustrating!

You do have openSSH (from Cydia) installed on your iPhone, right?
If so, then lets try the basics.
On your Mac, launch the Terminal app (in /Applications/Utilities/) and type:
Code:
ssh root@your_iPhone_IP
press enter, and type in the password at the prompt:
Code:
alpine
NOTE: the password won't show as you type it.
Press enter and you should then get the following prompt meaning you are connected:
Code:
your_iPhone_name:~ root#

Can you successfully connect?

-----

Alternatively, you could use DiskAid and not bother with ssh.

Yippee!!

Hey that did it!!!!...yep I'm so dumb that I didn't have openssh on my phone!!...why though does it seem I can only use Fugu?...I generally use transmit...but I just tried it and it wouldn't connect (using transmit).

Thanks again!!

Yes, having openSSH installed does help... a lot!!!
Transmit works fine for me. Make sure you select Protocol: SFTP

i was going to post to say make sure you have SSH turned to ON with BossPrefs... but you didnt even have OpenSSH.. lol

Anyway, glad you were able to get it to work :apple:

I thought it was me not explaining something correctly. :)

Ok, excuse me for being a bit on the slow side, but I've followed the directions and I seem to be connected but I don't know what to do next. I see my_iphone_name:~ root#. How do I get to the files I want to transfer from Cycorder?

They are stored in "private/var/mobile/media/videos"

Drop on desktop, then get iSquirt (free) to convert to mp4 and import back to iTunes to view in iPod/video if you wish.

Hey, don't forget, Google can be YOUR friend.

You might want to try Cyberduck (free) for OpenSSH from Mac. I think it is easy to use.

Somewhat along the same lines.. Where are songs and videos uploaded from iTunes stored??

Can you upload songs / videos via SSH from another PC (since iTunes is gay and can only support one PC)?

Thanks

You can copy them, but the iPhone's music/video player won't know they are there, since they won't be registered in the iTunes database.

If you have your USB then connect your iphone and download PhoneView and it will let you browse your iphone since your jailbroken. Or download diskaid or w/e...

i second for phoneview it works exceptionally well.

I use it when I don't feel like using wifi or I am on the go. When will the day come where we get bluetooth ssh? That would be so awsome. I wish pdanet can get bluetooth tethering working...1 up apple.
