Hi,

Let me show my ignorance here.
But I believe asking questions, even dumb ones like this, are probably the best way to learn.
First MAC. Sure is different than Windows.

Concerning Safari:

Is this a "stand-alone" Browser like Firefox or IE ?
If so, can I use it independently of Firefox, etc.
When I click on it, it seems to go right to Firefox.

How do I select from the different Browser options available ? How do I make it the "default" one ?
How would I select, e.g. Safari as a stand-alone Browser (if it is) ?

What do you folks use ? Which is the most popular internet Browser for MAC's ?
Why ?

For mine use Safari and itr would be by far the most widely used on Macs.

You choose your favoured browser in its Preferences. When you start FF or Safari it is usual to get an offer to make this your preferred browser. They are all stand alone and the one thing I would suggest is avoiding Chrome.

I use Firefox an prefer it over Safari - but do use them both.

I access all my banking / credit card logins with Safari - if anything goes wrong it will be an apple issue.

Yes they are both independent "Stand Alone" apps and as mentioned above - the default can be chosen in <Preferences<General<Default web browser

The Safari icon should definitely launch Safari, not Firefox.

As others have stated, you launch the desired browser and access its Preferences. There you will find an option to make it the default browser. Sometimes it is worded something like "check to see that ---- is the default".

To avoid annoyances, you also need to launch all other browsers that are on your system, one at a time, and disable the corresponding option in each of those. This is to prevent them from pestering you about their not being the default or actually making themselves the new default every time you manually choose to use them.
