Browsers and mice

So, my browser of choice is Safari 8. It does everything I need better than the others.
However, for the occasional flash, I have Chrome installed.

Since now I'm on vacation and have more time for my tf2, my mouse is plugged in more than usual. One thing I noticed is that under windows, I can click the wheel and it will use the mouse movements to navigate the webpages, in any browser.

It never did that on my Mac. My thinking is that since it is Sony, they don't care (typical post 2000 Sony). However, when I tried Firefox (why use firefox in the first place? No advantages to typical user.) on OS X, the mouse actually did the same thing it does on Windows machines! Why? Anyway to replicate that on Safari?

I searched for drivers, but found none. It's a crappy low end mouse. Vaio VGP-UMS30. I would never buy a Sony product, much less with Vaio branding like this one, but it came with a backpack.

This isn't anything to do with the mouse, but is a feature that just doesn't exist in OS X. I think in Windows it's actually implemented by the application rather than the system as well, but that's beside the point.

This application (Smart Scroll) looks like it will add the functionality you want. It calls it Vector Scroll.

But Firefox supports it.

Oh yes, I mis-read it. I thought there was an universal driver for this sort of thing, somewhere...
