Buffalo Linkstation and Air

Hi there -

Maybe you could help me with this...

I wanted to connect my Buffalo Linkstation to my Macbook Air via the Ethernet cable - as I wanted to do it direct to quickly transfer large files instead of over the network. So, I plugged in the ethernet cable from the Baffalo Linkstation into my Macbook Air using Apple's USB Ethernet Adapter cable. However, my Buffalo share drive is not showing on my desktop, and of course certainly not connecting.

Is this USB Ethernet cable adapter not set up for this type of job?

The Linkstation is not a router, right? I am pretty sure that most models are not which means that you cannot just plug an ethernet cable into your MBA on one end and the Linkstation on the other. The router is necessary to give each one an address.

The simplest way to go is to have both the MBA and Linkstation plugged into your router. Assuming your router is "Base 100" this will be quite fast enough for you.

No, the Linkstation is not a router, but should be able to plug in directly via ethernet. I do it on my other Macbook pro from time to time.

Anyway...to update since last I emailed...

I simply restarted the MBA with the ethernet adapter plug in, and voila - the Linkstation was showing up.

I guess when all else fails, try restarting.
