Buffering and playback issues with Apple TV 3.0.1

Anyone having problems with 3.0.1.? I'm getting major buffering issues when trying to playback content from my iMac (wired) to the Apple TV (wireless). This seemed to have started with 3.0.1.

It's like the Apple TV forgets what it's receiving. I can't fast forward without it stopping and returning to play the file. I even cleared the entire Apple TV hard drive and changed channels on my AirPort Extreme.

I firmly believe it's not a network issue as I'm running a simultaneous dual-band AirPort Extreme router with both an 802.11n @ 5Ghz and an 802.11n/802.11g/802.11b @ 2.4Ghz network. And I'm not experiencing any other problems on the network.

Nothing seems to fix it. I've also did the format and reinstall firmware 1.0 then upgrade to 3.0.1 twice.

Additionally, it tells me that certain files are not compatible with the Apple TV even though I know they worked fine with pre 3.0. It says it cannot playback the file, but the file plays fine on both my Macs and will even sync to my iPhone.

The files in question are both SD and HD files including some downloaded directly from the iTunes Store.

Any thoughts?

I've actually noticed better streaming performance, and smoother handling of rew/ff/pause with HD sources since upgrading to 3.0/3.0.1. My network topology is similar to yours, with the only exception (maybe) being that my media is stored on a NAS device, which connects to my network via gigabit Ethernet.

Fixed it somewhat, I think. I turned back on IPv6 for Ethernet in the Network system preference and changed my Ethernet settings back to automatic from forced gigabit.

It’s still have issues rewinding, and it didn’t fix the issue with the playing back compatible files.

I'm having this same issue on both AppleTV's in two different houses and different networks.

In setup 1 I'm using a dual-band timecapsule streaming from a mac pro

setup 2 I'm using a airport extreme streaming from an iMac

it will just randomly say "cannot play selected video" when it played fine earlier that day or pre 3.0 usually I restart the appletv in both cases and it works after that. But it's getting frustrating havng to do this all the time when I never had too before.

Any advice?

I've been having the same "cannot play selected video" since the upgrade. It occurs with both itunes purchased video and self-converted works. I have noticed, however, that simply attempting to play the movie or TV show again and it starts. Sometimes it takes two or three whacks at it.

The only time that I have seen this message on my AppleTV 3.0.1 is when my NAS hard drives take a little longer than usual to spin up from its sleep mode. If I try to play the file again it'll stream without any issues.
