Hi.

Well. I don't know how to explain this but...there is a bug inside my iMac.

I've noticed that there is a small dot moving all around the screen...

What will Apple do about this?

Can't you take the glass panel off the front and clean it?

dont remove it its a iBug , a vital part in the iMac , or how do you think a iMac works? with electronic's? wrong there are thousands of little bugs trained to use little abaci , so your bug that is strolling around in the display has just a couple day's off , even iBug's need a holiday from time to time , so look for a nice desktop background for the iBug's in your iMac so they can feel like at home ;)

Why don't you pick up the phone and find out?

Apple service is closed here. It's 10:00PM here.

Well, it's a 1500$ machine, so it isn't funny for me.

I will lose warranty, or not?

Could be just an errant dead pixel (or a couple). Can you take a picture?

I don't have the camera here, but it's moving all around the entire screen, so it's not a dead pixel.

i know it is not funny , but come one have a bit humor life is serious enough , and if it is a bug it wont kill the iMac , just give apple a call make a appointment at the genius bar and get it sorted , they might know how to remove a bug inside a iMac , serious there are holes , its nice and warm so ideal for most bugs ..food supply is maybe a bit short ;)
but i had once a spider living inside the back of a crt monitor a wolfspider that was really scary when she came out during work they are quiet big a inch or so

So... unless it was directly off the factory floor, then this problem isn't Apples.

I doubt warranty covers stuff such as bugs in the screen, unless the bugs had been there since day one... which is highly unlikely, considering the machine is now 7 months old.

Hm. Maybe it IS a bug. Uhm... yeah. Just take it to the apple store. Removing glass yourself = no warranty. Well, really, anything to do with taking apart your machine voids your warranty hahaa.

pc's get BSOD, apples get bugs! Always wash apples and check for any bore holes.........i nearly bit into a bug in a pear once!!

Hope you get it sorted though.

aaaw cute its really a small bug just the size of a pixel , but as i never came across moving little black pixels on a display i guess it is indeed a bug
cant see if its behind the glass or inside the display , if its just behind the glass , no warranty issue as you are allowed to take it off with a suction cup for cleaning , and as it is not airtight there is a chance of a bug getting in especially because the iMac is nice an bright which attracts lots of bugs

I hope it can get out as it got into.

Let's see.

Well...really it's like ironic. No viruses but bugs.

:(

Laughing with you, not at you as the saying goes, and I appreciate you're not laughing. Don't let it get you down.

I wouldn't like to second guess what Apple might say but I have always found them helpful myself.

If it comes to it, though I have not opened my iMac yet, removing the glass cover looks brilliantly straightforward as it is held in place with magnets. Take a look on Youtube for the mid 2010 model. Once you have watched a couple of people carefully removing the glass cover, it starts to look second nature. A couple of glass suckers and a bit of care not to twist the glass or drop the glass and it appears to lift off easily. I have seen some people do it over large mattresses and imagined they will unbalance if they stand on the bed to move around their iMacs. My preference would be to do it in a relatively dust-free and clean kitchen, on the floor. Having gently puffed the insect off the screen with a puff of compressed air, assuming it isn't actually in the screen itself(!), I would then carefully vacuum around the edges of the screen. I would hope that's then the end of your problem. If unable to buy a purpose-made cleaning rag, gently remove any finger prints with a clean lint-free piece of cotton. Preferably have a can of compressed air to hand, though at a pinch, if very careful not to hit anything with it, you could flap a clean baking tray or similar to displace dust that lands on the screen/glass panel; never blow. Then gently put back together. And I know just how patronizing that all sounds. Don't quote me on this because I don't know but I am not sure why removing the glass screen to clean it would void the warranty, unless you did damage during that process. Short of dropping the glass, which you are less likely to do if sitting on the floor, or somehow overbalancing the iMac, I am not sure how that would come about.

If worried, perhaps try phoning a Mac store in a different timezone?
