My iPhone 16 Pro Max’s screen has been intermittently flashing pink and I’m worried it may be a hardware issue and I’ll miss the return window. Of note, I bought it to Apple and after running tests, they don’t believe it is a hardware issue. They also didn’t have my exact phone in stock to exchange. I have been able to reproduce the issue about 50% of the time by doing the following:

1. Assign the iOS 18 wallpaper in the “azure/blue” color
2. Turn the screen off by pressing the power button
3. Go to “settings,” then “wallpaper”
4. Turn the screen off one more time with the power button
5. Unlock and it should open back up to your current wallpaper preview in settings. Click “customize” on the Lock Screen preview.

Can you follow the above tests and tell me whether or not your screen also flashes pink?

if so, I guess it’s a software bug. By the way, no need to repeat steps 1-3 to replicate. The problem also presents with any wallpaper in this preview mode after the problem initially emerges.

So I just captured the issue via screen recording. Does this indicate it is a software issue?

That’s so strange. I sent the video to my brother and he can see it. I can also see it on my iPad.

If there is a fault with the device, the return window is irrelevant.

It will be covered under warranty.
My concern was receiving a refurbished device when my device is essentially new.

How old do you think the replacement device could possibly be, given that it’s only been out for two weeks?

You’d likely get a brand new replacement, if not it would be a device that someone returned after changing their mind or something.

I wouldn’t be concerned in the slightest.

If it really bothers you, you could always return yours for a refund, and then buy another one.

That way you would be guaranteed a brand new device. 🤷‍♂️

Does the "intermittently flashing pink" happen in actual normal use and not when doing those specific steps in that particular order that most people would never do?

In any case, you have your options.

Initially it presented when I was just using the phone normally. I just simultaneously discovered it was reproducible if I did the above.
