Hello. I've been using my MacBook Pro for around 5 months now, but have recently started encountering a volume issue with the built-in microphone.

The volume is really quiet - even though I've turned up the microphone volume up as high as possible in System Preferences.

I tend to enjoy a casual skype/facetime call, and I'm having to physically shout down the microphone to be heard.

Is there any software which can boost the volume of my microphone?

Thank you very much :)

may be the case that your product may not be able to support a loud volume. I have same problem I'm sorry, but have not found a solution I hope you can find some answers.

Have you checked the preferences of the apps themselves for mic settings?

Yes, Skype is saying everything is fine, and I'm not sure how to check it on FaceTime though. I've noticed that when I speak and have the system preferences window open, it takes a pretty loud shout for the bars to fill the voice level thing.

you should check settings of skype and facetime. try to set up them again on the softwares

edit: this thresad is very quick sorry for repition of other poster points

I try this and have the problem on all the software I use - I'm pretty sure it's an issue with the microphone itself, hence want some softwares to make it louder!

i am no more helpful. sorry. good look on finding solution

No problem. Thanks for trying though :)

Edit - @above, my nearest Apple store is around an hour away. I may call them then their call center is open and see if I can get a solution.

I had this problem earlier last year on a new 15" 2010 MBP. It turned out a wire was lose and it took the Apple technician around ten minutes to fix for me. He said it appeared that the wire had not been connected properly during the assembly stage.

Ah. I guess I'll take it into an Apple store to see if they can try and resolve it.

Thanks for your help :)

Just thought I'd post an update.

Finally found time to take it into an apple store last week. The genius compared the quality of my laptop's microphone to that on one of the laptops in store, and there was a clear difference.

It's currently off for repair to have a replacement microphone fitted.

I had this same issue; I'd set the input volume to max and it would barely register any sound beyond touching the mic.
The problem was quite simple -The mic itself on my 2015 Macbook pro is the little holes on the left hand side.
On my mac they were blocked with dirt. I gently applied a fine pin with circular motions to ream out the crud from the tiny hole and that seems to have cleared at least one of them sufficiently so that zoom/skype and dictation functions as it should!
