I have an issue that began about a week after I received my 2.0ghz MacBook Pro. I was one of the first people to receive one in the first shipment. :) /:rolleyes: . For the most part, my built in iSight does not show up in ichat, photobooth, or even system profiler. It's as if the thing is coming unplugged. Quite a bummer. The Mac Genius said it's likely hardware related and they'd have to ship it out for repair, but I'm a student and I can't get by without my computer for a week this late in the semester! GRR!!! Not to mention my other problem with this thing shutting down all the time... (i replied on another forum to a person with the same problem).!

What a pain. I guess it's the downside of buying the first generation or a new product. It especially sucks because I got this macbook as part of a replacement upgrade from a piece of junk lemon 12" powerbook which had like 5 major repair problems.

that's gotta suck. when do you have spring break? you could send it in then, but even then it wouldnt be a safe bet because you dont know if they could send it back in time. guess you just have to be patient. the isight isn't THAT useful for schoolwork IMO

agreed

spring break already passed. this started just before i went out of the country for spring break so i had no opportunity to do anything about it then. you're right, it's not that useful, but when i drop 2,500 bucks on a computer, i expect it to work. also, this thing keeps shutting off. i tried to replicate it in front of the genius but it wouldnt' happen. he said reinstall the os. i did that last night. it's continuing to power off at random. it makes me happy.

My iSight has also gone missing

My built-in iSight camera could not be found by the system this morning (my iMac is all of 3 weeks old). Its presence just vanished. Your post saved me hours of trying to track down the source of the problem. I'm calling it in for service tomorrow. I'll let you know what it takes to get it fixed.

Time has passed.....

OK, I left it in the shop for 2 weeks (I was out of the country anyway). They reproduced the problem on boot. But now for the kicker. If you create a new Admin user. Reset all the permissions. Unplug all USB devices. Power down. Bring it up and log in as the new Admin. It comes back. We have no idea why. So try this fix and see if it helps. In any event, I'm back up and running.
