Dang. I was hoping Steve would announce that the iPhone is getting native MMS functionality. :(

Oh well, I'm sure it's coming sooner or later.

But on the bright side, you can now add ringtones for $1.98 each! (Whoop-t-doo)

Well considering it was an iPod-centric event, you can hold your breath for a little longer on that one. Maybe we'll get some free features to make up for this whole $200 dollar loss business, but I doubt it.

I still <3 my iPhone.

Yep... the only new app is one that will generate more money for Apple making us pay for songs twice so we can use them as ring tones.

It really sucks not be able to get MMS messages.
Every time someone sends me a picture or something I gotta log into AT&T's site and put in a userID and password and most of the time it dont load right or I got a letter or number wrong and I gotta redo the whole thing.
I really hope they come out with MMS support soon, almost all phones have it now.

Or a buck if you already own the song. (Actually, did Steve ever say it would work on music you already own?)

Even so Apple didn't have to make it cheap, just cheaper than everybody else. Aren't Sprint ringtones like $2.50?

I guess I'm not upset becuase I never really considered using ringtones an option. My phone is on silent most times and has a neat "ringing" pheature to tell me a phone call is incoming. :p

This was a music related event. "The Beat Goes On"

Today the iPhone got two music-related updates (announced):

1. Custom ringtones that are cheaper than most other ringtones, where you get to pick the 30-seconds of the song you want for the ringtone
2. WiFi iTunes Music Store

MMS has nothing to do with music. I think it's weird to have expected it today.

We had hoped that Apple would announce a few new apps for the iPhone today... Like MMS. It seems if Apple can profit directly from it- we are SOL getting any new features on the iPhone that address problems/issues with the phone. I guess the only way is to hack the phone something I was not looking forward to doing...

Not at all. We're getting the first update that actually changes Functionality of the phone. More people want MMS than ringtones.

I hate viewmymessage.com.... It only works 50% of the time for me...

patience young grasshoppa... Good things come with time... Be it 1st party or 3rd... as long as it works I don't really care :)

Why give you a app like iChat... when you can use SMS and purchase the 20.00 a month add on for unlimited DOMESTIC SMS messsges....

Ya because everyone I talk to has free text messaging just like me! And everyone I talk to has an iPhone!

What was I thinking. Sad thing is, they probably signed an agreement with ATT that says they cant put that on the phone.

Unreal!

Lol :D
Are you serious?
Now thats rediculous right there.
So you'll have to update your ringtone and get a new one all the time? :D

Also, unless something changed, Sprint ringtones expire. (you'll have to buy them over and over again)

LOL WHAT!????

You can't be serious. If you are, you must 6 years old.

With all that has happened today you are upset about MMS?!! A totally useless feature with a million work arounds and other options!?

Today:

1. Apple screwed every iPhone buyer to date with their (illegal) price reduction.

2. Apple presented a completely useless new iPhone feature that will not be used by an iPhone user with any common sense.

I wonder why AT&T can't just forward MMS messages to your email address.

That would eliminate the "receiving MMS" problem.

I really think Apple has more in store for the iPhone. But, I wouldn't expect anything until after Leopard is released.

As much as I'm bummed about no MMS right now, I think you're right. There will be nothing more until after Leopard.

Talk about a great strategy for semi-forcing iPhone users to upgrade their OS. Nice move Mr. Jobs.
