buring a DVD+R

Ok, i cannot get a DVD+r to format. I have a C2D MBP and according to the system profiler i am able to burn DVD+R. Is this inaccurate or is it the disk? I have Sony DVD+R with compatible speeds of 1-16x. Why cannot i get this to work?

When you say format do you burn?? or are you talking a re-writeable DVD??

For which ever I have found Dragon Burn or Toast to be a decent program on the MAC side. Sure wish NERO would turn out a MAC version.
