I use an app called Offline Pages to download a few web pages to read while on break at work, I get no reception there. The app takes a little under twenty minutes to download the pages. The app has to be left in the foreground otherwise the downloads will pause. Any chance doing this 5-6 days a week long term will cause burn in on the Xs OLED?

I’m starting to wonder if the Xr lcd would have been the better choice.

There has not been one thread on this forum showing burn in on the iPhone X since it release. Is it possible, sure. Display units at stores that have brightness on maximum and the same image on the screen all day everyday have been shown to be susceptible to burn in. In your case, I wouldn’t worry about it..

The iPhone XS screen would have to be continuously on at 100% brightness for 500+ hours before burn-in happens.
