is there any chance this can happen to a led display?

How do you know for sure? People assume they have not changed but I have not read about any proof this is the case...

Its not a case of proof that its the same, its more a case of there being zero talk of it being any different. Only the source of the backlight has changed. You still have a little LCD pixel that sits in front of the backlight source which changes how much of that back light is let through. This is the same as before.

As far as the screen not being any different... we're talking screen technology. It's most likely a different LCD than prior models because it's different manufacturing. It's not as simple as just swapping out the lamps and replacing them with LEDs.

There were also different versions of the screens in the previous MBP's. And, looking at the LED display rumours, the panels apparantly come from different manufacturers. Speaking of which; what do you guys see as manufacturer in OS X?
