burning a movie

I am having a hard time burning a movie onto a CD ( not a DVD )

here are the facts

Hardware: Mac Mini with a Combo drive and JVC miniDV Camcorder

I can get the movie into imovie. But I dont have a DVD burner, so the logical step for the software is to take you to IDVD to burn the movie.

So I try to save my movie to say my desktop or some folder, then go grab it and drop it to a blank CD. Then I burn the CD and try to play the movie and it wont play.

How do I save it as a Quick Time movie to my desktop, then burn that to a CD?

I am very confused, and there is NO literature that comes with this great software.

When you say the movie won't play off of the CD are you trying to run the movie on your Mac or somewhere else? It sounds like you're just saving the iMovie file, but I'm not sure.

To export the movie as a typical QuickTime file, go to the File menu and choose Share... You will get a number of options, including compressing to fit on a CD under the QuickTime tab. Just remember this will work on a computer, but not a living room DVD player.

Don't forget that unless you compress the work in to a low-bandwidth format, you're going to experience difficuly playing it off CD. you only have about 1.5MB/sec to play with.

It also may only play on a Mac, depending on the codec used and the burn format.

If you want to play it on a home DVD player, use Toast and drag and drop the movie file into the video tab window and select video CD from the pull-out slider. Toast will encode the video file to then play on virtually any DVD player (they have to support VCDs but almost all do nowadays).

thanks guys, ill try that tonight, I might have to buy toast.....is it the best out there for the money?

Does anybody know if this is possible to do with Popcorn, or does it take Toast to do this?
