burning or copying photos to cd

I've just installed osx10.11.1 to my mid2010 iMac. I have no external disc drive, just the one internal to the iMac.

I'm trying to copy a disc of some photos that I just received that are on a dvd.

I put the disc in and choose 'Burn x to disc' and am told to put in a disc, that has sufficient capacity. When I eject the original and put in the new disc it seems there's not buffer file to burn from.

So I downloaded the pics to Photo and now in Photo there's no 'Burn to CD' option. I have the empty disc in the drive and try to drag and drop but that won't work either. I tried the same from a desktop file with the photos in it, still no joy.

I tried from Disc Utility with the same results.

I can't find any help with the new El Capitan online or even by searching MacRumors.

My questions are,
How do I copy a CD/Dvd? Can I do this with El Capitan or do I need an app?

How do I copy pics from Photo to a cd?

Try as i might I still can't find the Photos folder in Finder. In Finder I just have Pictures. in Pictures I can find iPhoto Library, but no Photo Library, where might I find the Photo files?

Unfortunately Apple removed disk burning from Disk Utility but you can do it in Finder.

1. Copy pictures to folder in iMac.
2. Insert empty CD/DVD into iMac.
3. Drag pictures into CD/DVD.
4. Open CD/DVD and choose burn disc.

I haven't tested if Photos supports burning because it's infuriatingly limited compared to iPhoto.

Thanks Ebenezum. What a PITA. I ended up putting the disk in an old MacBook that can't upgrade to the new OS. Not the first time I've had to use the old unit.

I'm glad you find good use for the disk.

I am not certain why Apple is removing burning and other previously supported functions but I suspect its supposed to be more "user friendly". Personally I think they are going too far.

You can give Apple feedback, if enough people complain they may reconsider. It has happened before with iWork and Aperture, to name a few examples.

I’m not sure whether I understood what you want to do. You want to make another copy of a disc?

To copy the contents of a disc to your Mac: Disk Utility > select the disc in the left column > select “File” in the menu bar > New Image > Image from “[disc]”. There you choose “DVD/CD master” as a format. Then you go to Finder, right-click on the created .cdr file and select “Burn Disk Image [name.cdr] to Disc...”.

If you do this frequently, you might want to add the “Image” button to the toolbar of Disk Utility (right-click on the toolbar and drag the icon onto it). Selecting the disc in the left column and then clicking that button has the same effect as ‘Image from “[disc]”’.
