Buy 12.9 iPad Pro to use with thunderbolt display.?? Trying to replace 2012 Mac mini that gave up the ghost

Trying to replace 2012 Mac mini. Your thoughts on what to buy to continue to utilize my Thunderbolt Display??..

you may try the Apple Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter, but I don’t believe they are compatible, but may work with the newer Mac mini’s and MacBooks

Thanks for your reply, I ended up buying a Mac air with the adapter, only 1 day but so far so good!
I didn't go with another Mac mini was that I only surf and didn't need the power so I went with the air for portability
