So I'm wondering when the general consensus is with buying a pair of AirPods Pro now or waiting until the 2nd generation comes out.
At the moment I can get a pair of AirPods Pro from Amazon UK for £190 and can pay via installments for 5 months so won't be a big hit on the wallet at once, but I'm trying to decide if I would be better off waiting for the 2nd generation to be released, I was hoping they would be announced in the Sept event, which wasn't the case
Is the 2nd generation expected to be a big upgrade or will it just be minor things?
Any advice anyone has would be helpful.
TIA

Personally I'd say go for it. Still a year away based on most rumours. Thats like buying a new iPhone.

I believe now is a good time to get the AP Pros if you can get them for what you consider to be cheap. I recently bought a pair from Amazon where I saved almost 40% off the original price. Was a great deal as far as I'm concerned.

Buy them now. Nobody knows when a second generation might be released. It could be next month or it could be a year from now.

I'd buy now as the rumours are thin on the ground for APPs so nothing coming soon. Plus, with so few rumours we can't even guess at what the new features are and if you'd want them.

I mean, you can wait to see what Apple announces in the October event. Rumors are swirling about an updated Airpods release. If you are looking for noise-canceling then APP is the way to go now and pull the trigger. But if you are not concerned with noise cancellation then I suggest wait another month and see what Apple plans on announcing.

I'm considering the APP's now too, but we have the AirPods 3 coming soon. Is it possible the AirPods 3 will have a better mic and sound than the AirPod Pros?

Of course it is possible but no one will know until the reviews are out.

No chance. They wouldn't make them better than the pros.

I'm certain from the numerous posts across the Internet that the current model has some sort of design flaw which will mean they will fail eventually. I'm waiting for the next ones.

Ah was hoping someone would pick up on that. The point here is clearly about cannibalisation of different product lines and the AP & APP don't have that much to distinguish them. Cannibalising even a single feature is risky when you're already drawing fine lines based on quality. I think only noise cancelling, sound quality and fit are the key upsells - and AirPods 3 will remove fit from the differences, which leaves you with noise cancelling and quality.

Could be possible they make the AirPods 3 as good as the APP and have something interesting coming for the APP 2 next year that puts them ahead in another way. Cannibalisation isn't seen as some grave error as it once was, especially now you have fast moving upgrade cycles and may only have a short dead zone in the cannibalised product.

Hard call, will be interesting (well for me anyway as I'm looking to buy).
