I still have my 30GB b&w iPod from like 10 years ago, complete with its whirling hard drive. I outgrew the 30GB limit about 8 years ago! lol

Wondering if should even think about buying a Classic to replace it, now, or keep waiting. I fear that the entire produce line will become obsolete with the iCloud, or some future bluetooth version of iPod, etc.

What do you experts think? MacRumors' buyers guide said to wait back in 2009 (I think), so I'm looking to you guys...

Thanks

Don't Buy

I currently have about a 50 GB library, and since I don't want a iTouch (have an iPhone 4) I will wait until the September event; because even if they dont release a new classic, there will always be more classics on craigslist.

Buy now. I don't see it being replaced and most likely it will die like the White Book and the Internal Superdrive.

I'm pretty much in agreement with this. If you think you need it and would like it, buy it now and enjoy it.

If, unexpectedly, an impressive update comes along in September, you can always sell it and buy one of the updated newer (and presumably better) iPod classics.

Cheers

The macbook was removed far quicker than the classic. As long as you are not in a desperate need, I would wait for the air.

I feel they would bring this back, I believe there is a market for the classic, because many enjoy having the bigger screen, and enjoy full music and movie collections, regardless of how cool the ipad is or how light an air gets.

I say buy just before the event (within return area) so that if they don't release something or discontinue you have your iPod and if they do return what you brought.

I could have sworn that was a question someone emailed SJ about and he said he wasn't planing on discontinuing the ipod classic. but it also doesn't mean they will be updating it either.

i am in the same bout since i broke mine a couple years ago i've wanted to replace it but haven't.

Yeah it was in late 2010 when he said that, things change. Doesn't mean he can't change his mind.

Though it still seems to be a huge seller on amazon, it amazes me essentially no updates for 4 years and it has been the 2nd highest seller aside from the iPod Touch on amazon every time I have checked out the top selling mp3 players..in fact it is 2nd right now.

I don't think they will cut it this year because it still sells, we might see that 220GB hard drive go into the classic this year.

If the classic has what you need in a player right now (capacity or otherwise) then buy it now, if you need a higher capacity wait.

I have a 160GB just chillin' in my closet waiting to be used, but right now my 120GB is still alive and kickin' so I haven't felt the need to pull it out of the case just yet.
