Yep, unlike Europe, we don't pay what that price posted is as there are sales taxes added to it. So it will cost you more than $499. Every state is different so you will have to Google it as suggested. That was one of the things I loved about living in Germany. I knew exactly what I was paying at all times.

New York has a 4% state sales tax
Washington has a 6.5% statewide sales tax

I don't think it is tax free for tourists. We don't care where you come from, or how long you are going to be here - we just want your money!!:D ;)

I think you might double check that sales tax figure for New York. I believe the sales tax is more than 4%. Perhaps some New Yorker here on MR can give you the NYC sales tax.

I believe D.C. sales tax is 6%. I think you got Washington state rather than D.C.

As for tax free, I don't think that any state will refund your money. Sorry, but I believe that you will be paying the state tax on it.

NYC is about 8.8%... 4% percent state and then the city added additional taxation on top.

Welcome to the USA!

Correct - I just checked. New York City tax is 8.875%.

Northern VA
Which Washington are you going to, the state of Washington (Northwest of US), or Washington, DC (Capital, Middle of EastCoast).

I think WashingtonDC sales tax is something around 6-7%. VA sales tax (I don't think they have Apple stores in DC), is 5%. There's an Apple store in Pentagon City mall (About 10 minutes drive outside of DC).
