My local AT&T store is currently sold out. I'm also tired of constantly calling the Apple Store in Sacramento as to when they'll receive more 8GB models. So, my options are:

1) My local AT&T store can place an order, and the item will be delivered to my door in an unspecified number of days.

2) Order from Apple's site. Last I heard, they're shipping 2–4 weeks.

Thanks.

Order from Apple. Eaiser to return if defective less hasel

Order from the online store, but keep check local stores (Apple has a store-by-store inventory checker on the iPhone web page). If the local stores get the phone in before your other phone ships, buy it and cancel the online order. Simple enough, and you are guaranteed to get the first available phone doing that.

Buy it direct from Apple.
Buy it from apple. That way if something happens to it like happened to me, you can have a mac genius look at, determine it is defective and get you all setup with a new one. In my opinion it is dumb to buy anything "apple" from someone else, unless you are getting a killer deal.

Other than who gets the sale revenue, it really doesn't matter. Apple will be much more helpful on iPhone features and use. ATT will provide support on the cellular service no matter where you buy it.

Personally, I'd use Apple and I did.

avoid att their employees are clueless and in some cases deceptive.

Absolutely. AT&T rep told me two lies,... 1) you can't buy online, only at Apple or AT&T store locations,... 2) If I ordered from the AT&T store, I would get it in 3 to 5 days.

Went home and ordered it online, less hassle, ..you'll forget about the shipping wait, long before the standing in line wait

It seems to me that after their initial shipments AT&T isn't even stocking the iphone, they are just taking orders, at least that is how it is in central Illinois

I think so also,.. my local AT&T store ran out the first night fri, and have'nt received any since,... according to the rep. The low stock in store thing for the most part was for hype, imo.

I'm in the same boat.

I'm having to order online because I called my local AT&T and she said that they were out of iPhones. I asked if she would be getting more and when, and she said that she has no idea and the warehouse won't tell her when because supposedly they are out-of-stock also.

My GF and I bought from an ATT store and were perfectly happy with it. 11 & 12 in line baby. Just buy from whereever they have stock. What about another location?

i ordered my 8GB on sunday and its going to ship by the 13th with delivery by the 19th, so your probably gonna wait till August if you order from apple

I read somewhere that even with Apple stating 2-4 weeks on the availability, the ship times are actually more like 6 days. I can't find the article that stated this, but you waited since January, what's another few days? I would buy on line at Apple as well.
